On June 11, 1962, Frank Morris, John Anglin and Clarence Anglin managed to escape from these very prisons; they are believed to be the only ones ever to have done so in the history of this institution.
Rumors say, however... that the very next year, on March 20, 1963... in the underground isolation dungeons a group of death-row inmates "carried out" the perfect escape plan 70 minutes before their scheduled executions. This escape led to the sealing of the prison the following day, on March 21.
